Spiced Pumpkin

A scrumptious and simple pumpkin recipe that is the perfect side dish. Sweet, savory and a little spicy, the pumpkin is cooked in fragrant cinnamon and chili for a truly delightful experience. Pair it up with buttered creamed corn for the perfect match!

Spiced Pumpkin


1/2 small onion diced

1 teaspoon olive oil

2 cups pumpkin or butternut squash diced into large pieces

1 cinnamon stick

1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

hot water


Heat oil in a pot. Add onions and cook till translucent. Add cinnamon stick and cook for 1 more minute. Add squash and hot water till reaches half way up the squash. Add salt and chili powder and mix well. Cook till squash is soft and water has mostly evaporated. Turn off heat. Finally sprinkle with sugar. Cover with lid and leave to steam.


Best served with buttered cream corn and salt and pepper chicken legs (see link below).
